Barrhead Travel layoffs announced, Glasgow store may close

Barrhead Travel has announced that it will be laying off workers “as a direct result of the impact of Covid-19”. The travel company announced that customers’ confidence in overseas vacations has plummeted due to the health pandemic.

This, coupled with the end of the leave scheme, meant that the company had to make “tough decisions”.

Jacqueline Dobson, President of Barrhead Travel, said, “Like many others in our industry, we have to make tough decisions as a direct result of the impact of Covid-19 on vacations.

“Client confidence has been shaken by the lingering uncertainty surrounding quarantine and travel restrictions.

“This, combined with the imminent closure of the leave scheme, means that we had to announce a number of layoffs.

“We will ensure that full support is available to all of our colleagues – personally and professionally – over the next few months. ”

The company also said the St Vincent Street store in Glasgow is at risk of closing. However, he added that the staff who are based there will move to the big box store on Oswald Street.
