Antonio Conte castigated his Inter Milan stars after locking them in the locker room for almost an hour after their shock defeat in Bologna on Sunday. Inter wanted to keep pace with Juventus, leader of Serie A, but took off at the San Siro which seems to have all but ended their title hopes.

The Nerrazurri needed a win to close the game to eight points, but threw a 1-0 lead to drop the visitors from Bologna, who started the match in 12th place.

“The disappointment is huge, at least as far as I’m concerned,” Conte told reporters. “I hope that this disappointment that I feel is also felt by the players for at least one percent.

“I am angry with myself because I am the manager. I have my responsibilities; I am the one who is leading the situation and it is just that I am very angry with myself first. Then I think the players should also be with themselves. ”

Romelu Lukaku had given Inter the advantage in the 22nd minute, and their position was strengthened by the expulsion of Bologna Roberto Soriano before the hour.

However, Lautaro Martinez saw his penalty saved five minutes later, which proved to be the catalyst for the fall of Inter.

Musa Jawara smashed in an equalizer in the 74th minute, before Alessandro Bastoni received his marching orders to level the sides at 10 each.

Inter kind of looked back, and Bologna quickly capitalized when Musa Barrow sent home an 80th-minute winner to top six minutes of madness for the hosts.

The result leaves Inter 11 points adrift of Juventus in third place and four of Lazio, second place, with eight games to play.

Conte continued at his post-match press conference: “Situations are only assessed by facing them. For me, this is the first year of collaboration with Inter and I took a situation with many situations to improve.

“At the same time, I also say that it’s fair to challenge everyone, me first. ”

He then hinted that his players were now playing for their future after the disappointing loss.

“I was brought here for a winning project and to bring Inter back to win,” he added. “Obviously, victory does not come overnight, but many situations leave a lot of bitterness.

“You think you are on a level and you are on a much lower level.

“By the end, we will all have to prove that we deserve Inter. Otherwise, it is fair to make other decisions as well. ”
