Alberta reports 133 new cases of COVID-19, two deaths


EDMONTON – Alberta added 133 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths on Wednesday. Active infections increased by 58 for a total of 1,251 while recoveries increased by 73 for a total of 8,436.

Alberta has reported two more deaths linked to the coronavirus outbreak to the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Center, bringing the total number of home deaths to five.

The South Edmonton long-term care facility has 60 active cases of COVID-19 among 47 residents and 13 staff.

There are now 102 Albertans with COVID-19 in hospital, including 18 in ICUs.

Active cases in Calgary have passed the 500 mark at 517, while active cases in Edmonton continue to hover around 200 with 205.

Alberta has 10 communities in its watch category:

  • Edmonton’s Duggan neighborhood;

  • Calgary’s Central, Elbow and Upper NE districts;

  • Cardston County;

  • Pincher Creek Municipal District No. 9;

  • District municipal de Willow Creek no 26;

  • Taber Municipal District;

  • Clear Hills County; and

  • Mackenzie County.

Alberta has reported 9,861 cases of COVID-19 since the first week of March.
