Active COVID-19 cases in Alberta exceed 700


Alberta reported 82 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the number of active cases in the province to 704.It is the fourth day in a row that the number of new cases remains above 80. The total number of cases in the province will soon exceed 9,000, or 8,994.

In recent days, the Premier and Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health have expressed concern that the number of daily cases has continued to increase recently and that more young people are infected with the virus.

The province reported 64 people hospitalized, including seven in intensive care.

No deaths have been reported, leaving the total number of deaths at 163.

The regional distribution of active cases was as follows:

  • Calgary zone: 312, up 17 from Tuesday
  • Edmonton Zone: 194, down four from Tuesday
  • South zone: 81, down from 23
  • North Zone: 53, up three
  • Central area: 61, up to 13
  • Unknown: three, three fewer than Tuesday

Over 550,000 Albertans have been tested for the disease.
