Danny Gatsos is now planning to retire and become a snowbird.
The 59-year-old coins specialist used the OLG Lottery app to verify his ticket.
“The message said Big Winner but I wasn’t wearing my glasses. I thought it was for $ 6,000 and I was happy about it, ”he told the OLG Prize Center in Toronto as he collected his winnings on Thursday.
“I stopped by the grocery store on my way to work to use the ticket checker to scan my ticket, and that’s when I saw the payoff was $ 6 million!”
The winning ticket was purchased at PetroCanada on Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough.
“I don’t want to do another Canadian winter once the world starts to travel again, but I’ll still have plenty of time to think about my next steps,” he said.
« That feels good. I don’t have to worry about bills anymore and I don’t have to work anymore. My life will consist of living. “
