10 WVU student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19, hoop training for arrested men

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU men’s basketball team will not start off-season training as scheduled on Monday after five student-athletes and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19. After the two-week period, players who test negative will be allowed to start the exercises on Monday July 20.In addition, four other soccer players and one soccer player tested positive for coronavirus. Contact tracing and self-isolation have already started for these people.

“The recent positive numbers tell me that the safest thing to do is to pause on the start of our men’s basketball workouts,” said athletics director Shane Lyons. “The well-being of our student athletes is the top priority, and we will continually monitor our men’s basketball situation with the hope of starting on July 20. ”

Previously, two student football athletes tested positive for COVID-19 and were kept out of the off-season exercises.
