“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” renewed for season 2 on NBC


NBC gives Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fans have something to sing about: the channel has renewed the season 2 musical, TVLine learned.

In his 12-year first-year run, Zoey’s Playlist on average a little more than 0.4 demo and almost 2 million viewers in total (in number Live + Same Day). With the reading of Live + 7 DVR taken into account, these figures increased to 0.7 and 3.1 million. With her season finale on May 3, Zoey’s playlist has matched her biggest audience since March 1 and has tied her best score since February 23.

Jane Levy, Emmy TVLine Dream nominee (Suburgatory) plays the role of the titular heroine, who develops the ability to hear people’s inner thoughts (or “songs of the heart”, as she says) through musical numbers. Skylar Astin (Crazy ex-girlfriend, the Perfect films) plays Zoey’s BFF Max, with whom she works at technology company SPRQ Point. Max, of course, has feelings for his buddy, who also has a strong connection to SPRQ marketing guru Point Simon (Luke cageJohn Clarence Stewart).

To complete the stacked set, Peter Gallagher (The O.C.) as Zoey’s father, Mary Steenburgen (The last man on earth) as Zoey’s mother, Alex Newell (The Glee project) as a friend / neighbor of Zoey and Lauren Graham (Parenting, Gilmore Girls) as boss of Zoey. Andrew Leeds (Bones) and Alice Lee (Take two) return respectively as Zoey’s brother and sister-in-law.
