West Wendover Avenue closed due to protests


With parts of W. Wendover Avenue closed for protests, companies asked their employees to come home early. Here is the list of closed stores:

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Police have closed sections of W. Wendover Avenue in Greensboro to accommodate protesters.

On Sunday afternoon, a group of about 40 protesters began entering stores along the road, calling for justice following the death of George Floyd.

The store owners told WFMY News 2 that they had called other store owners along W. Wendover Avenue to alert businesses to the protester’s imminent arrival. For security of the stores, many closed early.

Some restaurants in the area have also closed early, as no pedestrian traffic is expected with the street closure, restaurant managers said.

The full list of stores closed early along W. Wendover Avenue in Greensboro:

  • Costco – Closed
  • Walmart – Closed
  • Sams – Closed
  • Bed, Bath, & Beyond – normally closes at 5 p.m.
  • Lowe’s – Stay open until they normally close at 7:00 p.m.
  • Best Buy – Closed
  • Red lobster – Closed
  • Tripps – Do not accept online orders
  • Longhorn – Closed, will not answer questions
  • Applebee’s – Closed at this time as no one can visit the restaurant
  • Metro – Closure in the event of no response from customers
