Wayne Rooney does not believe Liverpool can convince an established star to star in their first choice before three and should target young people rather than the likes of Timo Werner.

The RB Leipzig striker watched some moving to Anfield, but the significantly affected coronavirus crisis in Liverpool’s purchasing power meant that they were no longer willing to pay his £ 47.5 million release from the clause.

Chelsea had no such concerns, however, with Frank Lampard dive to snatch Werner from Jurgen Klopp’s west west face, the club confirmed last week’s deal.

Now the former Manchester United singer Rooney has suggested Liverpool need to adjust their thinking regarding the signing of the striker’s reinforcements, instead of putting him in a youth internship, rather than the finished article .

Writing in his column for the Sunday Times, Rooney explained, “Transfers-wise, the only thing that Liverpool could strengthen their bench.

“They couldn’t do it with more back-ups for that front three, but moved on to Timo Werner partly because they couldn’t offer a player of his caliber a starting position.

“It’s a bit like Harry Kane’s situation in Tottenham when you hesitate to join the Spurs as No. 9 because you know you are not playing in advance of Kane.

“The whole front approached by Liverpool will be to think,” How am I going to get there before three? ” The best players don’t want to sit on the bench.

“Perhaps the solution for Liverpool is to get a brilliant youngster before, like Manchester City did with Gabriel de Jesus, who is ready to go there for a couple of seasons and learn.”

On Liverpool’s attack, Rooney added: “Their front three is a great machine.

‘Roberto Firmino works like Francesco Totti did rome, coming from deep to allow – just like the center-back opposition to relax – two fast, scale attackers to do diagonal races in space .

“It must be horrible for the side backs and midfielders against Mo Salah and Sadio Mane: you would be constantly thinking,” Where are they? “”
