US digital tax breakout speaks of ‘provocation’ – France

PARIS – Washington’s decision to withdraw from negotiations on digital tax services is a “provocation” and Paris will apply such a levy this year, despite US objections, Finances de France Minister Bruno Le Maire said Thursday.The Mayor said that France, Britain, Italy and Spain jointly responded on Thursday to a letter from US Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin announcing Washington’s decision to withdraw from negotiations on the tax plan.

“This letter is a provocation. It is a provocation towards all the partners of the OECD, when we were in agreement on an agreement on the taxation of digital, giants ”, Le Maire, declared on France Inter. (Reporting by Sudip Kar-Gupta and Leigh Thomas; Modification by Hugh Lawson)
