City of Toronto Coun. Michael Ford self-isolates at home after being tested positive for the coronavirus.Ford shared the results of its test on Tuesday. He said he found out that he had tested positive for coronavirus earlier today.

“I have isolated myself and will continue to do so for the next 14 days while I work from home to participate virtually in city business and committee meetings, and to continue to serve the residents of Etobicoke North “Ford said in the statement.

“I feel good and will continue to stay in constant touch with Toronto Public Health.”

Ford was first elected to Toronto city council in 2016, winning a by-election to sit on the council of his uncle and former mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford. He was re-elected in the 2018 Toronto election.

Ford was previously a director of the Toronto District School Board.

He is also the nephew of the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford. The Prime Minister’s office released a brief statement Tuesday evening wishing Ford good luck and said he and the Prime Minister had not been in touch in the past two weeks.

Ford is the first member of Toronto city council to confirm the positive test for the virus.
