The Canada-US border is expected to remain closed to non-essential travel until the end of July, sources told Reuters.The mutual ban on non-essential travel between the two countries has been in effect since March 21.

The ban prohibits discretionary travel such as vacations and cross-border shopping without restricting essential commerce, commerce and employees.

It currently expires on June 21.

Canada currently has just over 96,600 cases of coronavirus and 7,785 deaths. Several provinces, including Ontario, have started the reopening process.

In the United States, the total number of deaths has exceeded 110,000 with almost 2 million cases reported.
