The blue Jays face the challenge of playing in Toronto with MLB opting against the hubs

TORONTO — With the Major League Baseball is not going with a center-a model city for the 2020 season, the Toronto Blue Jays may be forced to find a place outside of Canada to play matches at home.

When asked about the Blue Jays training or playing games in Toronto over the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada’s chief public health officer has not raised the possibility of abandoning quarantine regulations.

“When (players) get back to training, they are subjected to 14 days of quarantine. … That the teams unite and get together, there are the concepts of group and group quarantine under which the players must stay together and do not pose a risk to themselves or within the vicinity of the population, so that the concept,” Dr. Theresa Tam said.

Canada has waived the 14 days of quarantine for the games in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto or of potential NHL hub city, accepting a cohort of forty where the teams stay in the key of a bubble during the tournament for the Stanley Cup.

With teams entering and exiting Canada regularly for a period of 60 game of the baseball season without the fans, the NHL approach would be impossible to duplicate.

MLB announced on Tuesday evening the season will begin July 23 or 24, with teams scheduled to go into the camps by 1 July.

Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, said he has not received a specific proposal for the Canada games to the MLB.

“Major League Baseball proposal (of the season), I’ve seen and read, it discusses a large number of aspects there,” he said. “He does not mention anything about travel in Canada at this time, so if there was a certain interest in that we would have to get a proposal from them to see how they would undertake the unique character, meet the team, and if they thought to bring other teams up here to play how they work like this until the federal government reduces or eliminates their quarantine of the law, but that is still in place at the time.

“We have ways that we’ve been working with the NHL to consider that. I haven’t seen anything specific yet with Major League Baseball at this time.”

Dunedin, Fla., the Blue Jays spring training home, and Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, the two have been mentioned as potential host sites for Canada’s lone major league team in the reports.

The toronto Blue Jays did not immediately respond for comment.

The club has not said that he will train in Toronto or elsewhere.

The Toronto Raptors, Canada’s lone NBA team, are in Fort Myers, florida., to resume the formation of the league of the restart to Orlando next month.
