However, there were no priority queuing system provided to these workers, which means many now claim they have missed.
On Twitter, many NHS staff are now asking why the Sports Direct would not offer discounts online to help NHS staff who worked or were left unable to queue due to change of timing.
User @Katie_here said: “I went to the Supermarket before. The queue outside Sports Direct has been a long one. The queue outside sainsbury’s has disappeared!!! I wouldn’t mind to get 50% NHS discount at SD, but it was yesterday and I was working. I’m not queuing more. I’m fed up.
@lacee74 said: “would have liked to take advantage of your 50% discount for NHS staff, but after a long shift I couldn’t wait in a queue of over 200 ppl shame you don’t have to do it online as well “
@Bpatterson84 tweeted: “Hi, I’m an NHS worker and waited in the queue, Aylesbury store yesterday for nearly an hour and a half before I had to leave to return to work. What’s the point of giving NHS staff a promotion if they can’t access it while they are at work. “
An NHS worker has even asked for the Sports Direct customer service team is something that could be done after default on the reduction despite the queue.
@Sehrish56809970 said: “@SportsDirect_CS Hi, I was in quebec yesterday, but has not had the chance to get into the store. I am a nhs worker and my id Is it something you can do? Vouchers were given but I did not have to have one. ”
Yesterday, hundreds of people queued outside the Sports Direct Aintree store, as well as its branches in Liverpool ONE and Wirral.
Its stores attracted some of the biggest queues with Primark’s Church Street store, which has been forced to open its doors in the beginning because of the amount of people waiting outside.
It is not clear whether the Sports Direct intends to expand its NHS discount. The ECHO has contacted Sports Direct for a comment.
