Sir Kenny Dalglish refused to take any credit for bringing Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.
The English midfielder led Liverpool to their first Premier League title and first league success in 30 years.
But Dalglish admitted that the mistake would have been his if he had missed the opportunity in 2011 to give the former Sunderland midfielder a chance to succeed at Anfield.
Sir Kenny Dalglish refused to take any credit for bringing Jordan Henderson to Liverpool
The midfielder was brought to Anfield in the summer of 2011 from Sunderland for £ 20m
“I saw someone who was better than what we had at that time in this position,” said the 69-year-old reporter.
“It was on the ground. Then when you get into the discussions, he was very balanced, his father came with him for the conversations, which was – for me – a good sign.
“He had a safe home life, which helps, and he was determined to succeed in football. If I hadn’t given him a chance, I would have been wrong. I’m not modest – you see something you like and you get it.
“He will be the only Liverpool captain to win this trophy, but he is also the winner of the Club World Cup. He’s up there with the captains who picked up the Champions League.

“The great thing about success, I think, is the common bond between everyone. You need a really good locker room to be successful.
Dalglish also highlighted the comfort of manager Jurgen Klopp in himself as another reason for the glory of the Liverpool title.
Dalglish won nine combined titles as a player and manager during his time in Liverpool.
He also revealed that former rival Sir Alex Ferguson was one of the first people to congratulate him.
Liverpool legend also saw Jurgen Klopp’s self-confidence as a reason for Liverpool’s glory
“He contacted us to congratulate us on the modern media! Dalglish said.
“You go through the old generation, Fergie to Man United, Brian Kidd, Mike Summerbee, all the old enemies who crossed football at the same time and at the end of the year you sent a letter of congratulations.
“It continues. It’s a great compliment. You are in competition and you are rivals, but to have the intelligence, you are magnanimous enough to send a congratulatory letter.
