Sergio Sanchez scores must-see KO, Edwin Palomares dominates Carlos Ornelas

Featherweight Edwin Palomares scored a fifth round stoppage of Carlos Ornelas with an accumulation of punches in what must be seen as an upset Saturday night on the Emanuel Navarrete-Uriel Lopez undercard in Mexico City.

A body punch in Round 5 forced Ornelas to take a knee. Shortly after, his corner waved the fight.

While it seemed that the left-handed Ornelas (25-3, 14 KOs) was the superior technician, he has been slowly worn down by the pressure maintenance Palomares (13-3-1, 4 KOs), who choked Ornelas, crowded inside and unleashed a two-fisted attack.

At the beginning of the battle, it was strong double action, with both men landing their share of punches. But by the fourth round, Palomares took control and began to dominate the fight.

By the fifth round, the accumulation of punches was too much for Ornelas. This was not a punch that caused the knock-out — but really, all of them. By the end of the fight, Palomares threw 476 punches to 246 of Ornelas, outlanding him 166 82.

Sergio Sanchez scored an eye-opening knockout of Gustavo Pina in the third round of their scheduled eight-round featherweight contest. The greatest Sanchez (15-1, 9 KOs) was in control from the beginning of the fight, using his advantages in height and reach, and he constantly deflected the opposite direction Pina (8-3, 5 KOs) perfectly.

Sanchez sent Pina down with three punches to the end of the second. Pina is gone from the canvas and saw the end of the round. But in the third round, a hybrid left uppercut/hook, Sanchez landed on the tip of Pina chin. Just like that, the fight was more devastating fashion.

Garcia outpoints Palomares

Ivan Garcia remained undefeated by scoring a unanimous decision victory over Roberto Palomares in a six-round junior bantamweight fight.

The action has been relatively subdued, with neither boxer ever to really take control. But it was Garcia (6-0, 3 KOs) who has won the victory (59-56 and 59-55 twice), vacher Palomares (5-5-1, 1 KOs) 98 to 70 in total punches.
