A San Francisco man has been charged with criminal threats Thursday after he allegedly threatened to shoot a family with three young children who were wearing Black Lives Matter t-shirts.
Steve Cibotti, 55 years old, is claimed to have yelled ” Blue Lives Matter to Anthony Colon, his wife Ciara Doherty, and their children – Arya, 7, Arlo, 5, and Etta, 2 – as they dined on the 7th of June.
He then threatened to shoot them, according to the family and other guests of the restaurant.
Cibotti was arrested by Burlingame police on four counts of threats, each with a hate crime enhancement, said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

According to ABC 7 News Cibotti also lost his job at United Airlines as a result of the incident.
The San Mateo Daily Journal says that he is the father of a sergeant of Police in San Francisco.
“We believe that the evidence shows that he was motivated by the Black Lives Matter shirts,’ Wagstaffe said.
The young family, who is multiracial, said that they had just returned from San Francisco and their families to protest when Cibotti approached them in Flights restaurant in Burlingame at about 5.30 pm on 7 June.

Cibotti would have then returned to the table a second time when he threatened to ” F**k you, B. I’ll f*****g shoot you.’
“We were just a family trying to have dinner,’ Colon said.
“I do not believe that if we were a white family that he would come near us,’ Doherty added.
“I am angry that children have been exposed to that, I’m upset at the effect it will have on them. After this, Arlo didn’t want to get out of the house today because he thinks that the guy will come back and take his weapon.’

Police were able to view surveillance footage of the incident from the restaurant and maintenance of other diners who have supported the family’s history as part of their investigation.

Cibotti the lawyer for Paula Smart told ABC 7 that he has since signed for the rehabilitation and had too much to drink the day of the incident.

She said that he and his family had left the restaurant, but he returned to use the toilet when he decided to approach the young family.
Wagstaffe confirmed that Cibotti had eaten and drank with friends and family in the restaurant before the altercation with the other members of the family.
Scientist denies, however, that Cibotti threatened to shoot them, despite evidence gathered from other guests.
“At this moment, on what one said to the detective, who spoke with them, these words were spoken,” said the District Attorney Wagstaffe.
“This was not just someone who was yelling at the people next to them, because their children were crying or making noise.

The Police said that Cibotti do not have registered firearms.
The family wgo alleged he threatened them and said that they were relieved to hear that charges had been filed in a statement released after Cibotti of the arrest.
“We are relieved to learn that the District Attorney has filed a complaint. We look forward to the resolution of this issue so that we and everyone else affected by this incident can put this behind them and begin the healing process, ” he said.
Cibotti was released Thursday after posting a $150,000 bail. It is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
He faces a maximum prison sentence of ten years if he is convicted of all charges.
