Sabres sign Oskari Laaksonen to a contract entry level of three years

The Sabres of Buffalo have signed with the defender Oskari Laaksonen to a contract of entry for three years, announced the team Monday.

Laaksonen was the choice of the third round of Swords, 89th overall, in the NHL draft in 2017.

“The work that Oskari has done to improve her game has paid off during its last two seasons,” said the general manager of the Sabres, Jason Botterill, in a press release. “His success on the international scene and what he has done as a player of 19 and 20 years old in a professional league is impressive. ”

Over the past three seasons, the player of 20 years has played with Ilves of the League’s elite in finland. During this time, he recorded 40 points in 113 games. Laaksonen ranks fifth all-time for touchdown passes among the defenders of the Liiga before their 21 years.

Laaksonen has won a gold medal at the world junior Championships 2019 IIHF, alongside his compatriot Sword Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. He scored one goal and added one assist in seven tournament matches.
