Roy Keane criticized Aston Villa’s approach against Sheffield United and named Captain Jack Grealish for laughing.
Villa languishes in 19th place in the Premier League, with Dean Smith’s side locked in a battle to avoid relegation.
They were held to a goalless draw at home against Sheffield United on Wednesday in the first game since the Premier League revival, and Keane was unhappy with Villa’s attitude.
Roy Keane criticized Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish for laughing at Sheffield United
Keane was not satisfied with the way Grealish and Villa approached the game
Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said, “They need a little more intensity. And I know this is the first game in three months and it will be difficult for players to regain their clarity. I’ve always been told it’s going to take six or seven games for me to know, so it’s a tough situation for the players.
“But you have to try to create something. And for Villa the other night, I felt like they felt that a draw was not the end of the world.
“Every time I looked at Grealish, he laughed. Look, do you know what’s at stake here? And maybe because the fans weren’t there, they felt the result didn’t matter. Of course, it is important, your career is at stake here.
Grealish could not inspire Villa to victory as they took part in the first game since their return
Villa was fortunate not to be defeated, goalkeeper Orjan Nyland carrying the ball above the line after Oliver Norwood’s free kick, but the effort, bewildered, was not considered a goal .
With only nine game streaks left, time is running out for Villa to maintain its superior flight status.
Grealish and Villa return to action Sunday afternoon as they face Chelsea at home
Despite Keane’s criticism, Grealish seemed most likely to do something for Villa on Wednesday, and he has made a major contribution to the Premier League this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists.
Villa has a tough job to do on Sunday when she welcomes Chelsea and needs Grealish to be her best on the occasion.
After the match, tough work remains for Villa, who has yet to play against Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Although they were unable to take three points against Sheffield United, Villa managed to end an alarming streak of five consecutive losses in all competitions.
