Roethlisberger admits to past addictions to alcohol, pornography

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has recently shared details about the personal battles he has had off the field.Speaking at a virtual conference of Christian fathers day, Roethlisberger admitted to struggling with addiction.

“It is not always easy. People don’t realize all the time that we, as athletes, we’re human. We sin like everybody else, ” Roethlisberger said, according to ESPN, Brooke Pryor. “I’m not different. We make mistakes. We become addicted to things. We have sin. We are human. I think that sometimes, we are put on this pedestal where we can’t make mistakes. I fell as short as anyone. I have been addicted to alcohol. I was addicted to pornography, which makes me so not the best husband, a good father, not the best Christian I can be. ”

Roethlisberger has said that he is trying to be a better Christian and that he was baptized three years ago, but he has also been baptized as a child.

“Now more than ever, it’s cool to be a Christian, especially professional athletes,” he said. “One of the things that I want to say guys and say to the people there, I can be a very good athlete and a Christian. This is not one or the other. I can do both. ”

Roethlisberger has won Super Bowls with the Steelers in 2005 and 2008. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He has been accused of sexually assaulting a college student as of March. He was also accused of sexual assault in July 2009.
