Pep Clotet expressed his wish that Jude Bellingham continue its development in Birmingham City. However, the Blues head coach understands that the modern football economy and the youngster’s prodigious talent mean that this will likely not happen beyond the end of this season.

Bellingham is in line to start against Hull City on Saturday – his last game before his 17th birthday on Monday, June 29.

Speculation has increased this week that Bellingham picked Borussia Dortmund ahead of Manchester United – although Bayern Munich, which has watched it several times, has also made a late offer.

Clotet was asked about Bellingham’s future at his pre-game press conference and summed up what many Blues fans will think.

“He didn’t tell me he had made a decision,” said Clotet.

“It is difficult for me to say what would be best for him because it is a very personal opinion.

“I would love him to continue to be here in Birmingham, if not Birmingham as close to the English game as possible because I like the English match.

“I also understand that there are opportunities abroad where player development is something that must also be taken into account.

“The only thing I would say is that whatever he chooses or wherever he goes, he takes the same ambition he has here, the same pride, the same concern to be better and to help the team. ”

The Spaniard reiterated how grounded Bellingham has been as speculation has intensified since the 0-0 draw at West Brom.

“It’s as simple as always. Naturally, we had a little talk about football – just football on Monday.

“We talked about the positions on the field, the oppositions and we also discussed his position and his responsibilities towards the team.

“I have a feeling every day that I work with him and I see that he is still just as focused. He had a fantastic training today and was very happy and focused on his efforts to give Birmingham the best finish possible. ”

The teenager is expected to make his 37th appearance in a remarkable campaign this weekend.

He scored four goals and played in various positions, impressive by his technical and physical abilities as well as his composure.
