Friday evening (June 5), a spectator-free Woodbine Mohawk park received its first live race card in 78 days.

Saskatoon, a rhythmic four-year-old mare, was the first horse to visit the winners’ circle since March 19, marking a slight upset of 7-1 in the evening’s first race for driver Doug McNair and trainer Carmen Auciello.

The evening’s action consisted of 10 races, with the favorite pace of $ 32,000 Mares headlining.

Last year, Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion Boadicea had her debut at age four with a superb 1:50 long distance victory. Sylvain Filion guided trainee Bill Budd to a prominent victory, which included a powerful: 26.2 last quarter. Early season star So Much More rallied for second place, while Sunny Dee was third in her debut in 2020.

Boadicea won eight of 14 starts and made $ 417,652 last season for owners C E Lawrence Stable Inc. and G A Lawrence Stable Inc. His first win in 2020 gives him 12 for his career. She paid $ 9 to win.

Friday’s card also saw another former OSS star take a decisive victory.

Five-year-old broodmare Kendall Seelster raced from coast to coast in 1: 51.4 to win the evening’s seventh $ 26,000 race. The win earned him over $ 1 million in career gains for homeowners 1187422 Ontario Inc.

Kendall Seelster is coached by Rod Boyd and was led to his 25th career victory by Robert Shepherd. She paid $ 4.70 to win.

Driver Sylvain Filion led the way among the reins with three wins on the map. Coach Bob McIntosh led all conditioners with a pair of three-year-old Perfect Storm ($ 3.80) and Sex Appeal ($ 6.70) group wins.

Live racing continues on Saturday night with a compulsory Jackpot Hi-5 payment for the milestone event. The carryforward of the Hi-5 Jackpot is $ 236,338.67 before the compulsory payment, which will take place during the last race of the evening (race 10). Post time is 7:10 p.m.

Woodbine Entertainment has put in place a list of strict physical distance protocols at Mohawk Park and Woodbine Racetrack to resume live racing. The protocols in place allow all race participants, officials and employees to perform their duties in a safe environment.
