PIERS Morgan has lambasted the “disgusting” thugs who clash with riot cops in London today.
The Good Morning Britain presenter said it was “shameful” that protesters were “protecting” the cenotaph throwing fireworks and glass bottles at police.
Piers, 55, tweeted: “Disgusting scenes at Westminster. Police and journalists attacked by right-wing thugs.
“Shameful.”
Violent clashes rage today in central London, with glass bottles, a flare and cans thrown at the line of officers who were masked by protesters.
Protesters were also seen punching police amid ugly scenes in Trafalgar Square.
Hundreds of protesters and veterans had gathered in the capital to “protect” the Cenotaph and the statue of Winston Churchill as organizers of Black Lives Matter urged activists to stay away.
Paul Golding, the frontman of the far-group band Britain First, was photographed in the crowd wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt.
It comes after statues in Parliament Square, including Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, were taken on board to prevent them from being targeted by either side.
Piers expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement – but said it was “o” for thousands of people to break the rules of social distancing by protesting.
He tweeted last week: ” I fully support the #GeorgeFloyd protest in Hyde Park right now.
“The total absence of any social distancing by the 1000 people protesting is senseless”
Later, he urged his supporters not to let the “celebrity who signals virtue” overshadow the reasons why protests took place all over the world.
The journalist posted: “Memo to the world: don’t let crazy political correctness – absurd celebrity virtue-signaling destroy the very real – very powerful movement for an end to racial inequality – injustice since George Floyd’s murder.
“Or nothing will change.”
Black Lives Matter gained popularity this month after the horrific death of George Floyd.

George, a 46-year-old black father, died after white cop Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes during a brutal arrest in Minneapolis on May 25.
Last week, Piers ran into a lawyer defending one of the officers accused of aiding George’s murder from the interview.
He grilled attorney Earl Gray, who is defending Minnesota police officer Thomas Lane after being charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
