Piers Morgan has called the right-wing protests in London “shameful.”

Violent brawls broke out in the capital as far-right protesters took to the streets, with images showing the scuffles on social media.

Taking to Twitter, the Good Morning Britain presenter hit those who attend, sharing an LBC video reporter Matthew Thompson tweeted of protests in Parliament Square.

Quoting the post, Piers wrote: “Disgusting scenes in Westminster.

Police and journalists attacked by right-wing thugs. It’s disgraceful.

Sharing the same tweet, London Mayor Sadiq Khan added: “This is totally unacceptable.

“We will not tolerate attacks on our police and perpetrators will feel the full force of the law.”It is clear that far-right groups are at the root of violence and disorder in central London, I urge people to stay away”

Protesters vowed to “defend” memorials after a statue of slave trader Edward Colston was dragged down in Bristol during a Black Lives Matter march last week.

Hundreds of people have gathered in the capital to try to protect the statues – with tensions rising between those involved and the police, and bottles and cans have forcefully thrown police officers on duty.

Interior Minister Priti Patel condemned the scenes as “totally unacceptable thugs.”

“Any perpetrator of violence or vandalism should expect to face the full force of the law,” she tweeted.

“Violence against our police officers will not be tolerated. Coronavirus remains a threat to all of us.

“Go home to stop the spread of this virus and save lives.”
