Man Utd legend Peter Schmeichel told Dean Henderson to forget about ousting David from Gea soon and urged him to stay on loan to Sheffield United. The former United goalscorer dominated the two goalkeepers following suggestions that Henderson could challenge Gea for the No. 1 jersey at Old Trafford next season.

Henderson had enjoyed an exceptional campaign for The Blades, pushing himself into controversy in England with his impressive performances.

De Gea was short on his side, making several mistakes that greeted the question marks over his abilities in the role.

But Schmeichel is undoubtedly who is the top goalie, and thinks that Henderson must remain patient for his chances.

Schmeichel urged Henderson to remain on loan

“We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Manchester United,” Schmeichel told the Metro. “There is no sign that he is going to leave the club, why would he do it?” He has had the opportunity on several occasions.

“In the past six years, he has been a Player of the Year four times. He did a fantastic job, but the point is, there is only one goalkeeper on the team.

“For every youngster and especially young goalkeepers, there is so much to learn when it comes to the most difficult end of high-level football like the Champions League and international tournaments.

“You must have so much experience and I can see no harm in Dean Henderson continuing to play for Sheffield United. Every day he will learn something new. ”

Henderson is held in high esteem at United, hence the decision to offer the 23-year-old a new long-term contract last summer before sending him on loan.

However, he faces a battle to move 29-year-old Gea, who did not sign a new contract himself until late last year, which will keep him at the club until at least 2023. .

Sheffield United would undoubtedly like to keep Henderson’s services for next season when they could be involved in European competition, and Schmeichel says that while he plays weekly, Bramall Lane is the best place for him.

“I know it sounds cold, but we have David De Gea, who has been so fantastic for us,” added Schmeichel. “I don’t understand why someone thinks it’s a position that needs to change [right now]. Why would you want to shake the boat?

“The best players will take you to the next level. ”
