Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to sign the target transfer of Manchester United and Liverpool Jadon Sancho after Timo Werner.

The Blues have reached an agreement with the German striker Werner at the beginning of the month and the star of the RB Leipzig is expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Frank Lampard is also ready to welcome the moroccan international Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, but Merson believes that Chelsea should pursue his transfer and sign the ace English Sancho.

Sancho has become one of players the most coveted in Europe since his departure from Manchester City in 2017, marking 34 goals in 96 matches with Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both shown interest in the signing of Sancho this summer, but Merson has said that Roman Abramovich is expected to make a “statement” by ensuring his signing to Chelsea.

“I don’t think that the spending of Chelsea will stop [with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech]”Said the legend to Arsenal Starsport.

“They want to, of course, always Jadon Sancho, and if they can’t get to it, they will probably try to Kai Havertz.

“One or the other will cost almost 100 million pounds sterling. But this type of transfer is cost-effective. Chelsea could get a good five years of Sancho and to obtain always a big sell-on.

“You have all the chances to recover your money with a player like Sancho.

“And if Abramovich starts to come to the matches, he will want to be entertained. He does not care to pay 100 million pounds sterling for Sancho if it helps to play a good football.

“Sign Werner is a big statement. But sign Sancho would be even more important. ”

Sancho was immediately impressed for Borussia Dortmund after the resumption of the Bundesliga, scoring his first hat-trick in the beating 6-1 against Paderborn.

This week, the manager of Dortmund and Lucien Favre has conceded that Sancho could leave the German club in the next few months.

“Obviously, the players will go and we hope that they will remain, but it is possible that they also leave,” said Favre when he was interviewed on the future of Sancho and Ashraf Hakimi.

“You spoke of two players, whom we don’t really know what will happen.

“They could stay with us, it is clear, and it would be fine for me. We will see what we will do in defence, in midfield or in attack. ”
