NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Gov. Andrew Cuomo said New Yorkers overcame disastrous projections to reach the reopening of Phase 1 in New York on Monday.
“We’ve gone from the worst situation in the nation, frankly one of the worst situations in the world, not just to flatten the curve, to bend the curve,” Cuomo said.LINK: Click here for more details on New York Phase 1 re-opening plans

The Governor thanked essential workers, such as health care professionals, grocery store employees and delivery drivers, for their efforts since the beginning of the coronavirus closure.

“If these essential workers hadn’t showed up, you would have had total anarchy in society,” Cuomo said.


The governor noted coVID-19 cases in New York are down, while cases are rising in other parts of the nation.

“Based on the numbers, we can reopen,” Cuomo said.

According to the governor, of the 58,054 COVID-19 tests conducted in the state on Sunday, 1.2% were positive, the lowest number since March 16.

As the city adjusts to Phase 1, Cuomo also reminds those who have participated in events that they are eligible for a free test.
