A group of young black activists withdrew their invitation to Montreal police chief Sylvain Caron to meet them during the Sunday demonstration to protest police brutality following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The new generation Black League has said it is withdrawing the invitation because it has lost confidence in the police.

A tweet from the SPVM said it had respected the group’s decision and said it would be there on Sunday to ensure the safety of the demonstrators.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at Place Émilie-Gamelin next to the Berri-UQAM metro station.
