Mikel Arteta thinks that Eddie Nketiah is on the right track to ensure a regular position at Arsenal after his performance “extraordinary” against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The player of 21-year-old has surprisingly led the attack for Arsenal for their trip to the Etihad stadium, but he has had few opportunities as the Gunners crashed to bow down 3-0 against Pep Guardiola.
Nketiah has a lot of competition to fight in the attack of Arsenal with Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli, pushing it all to start in a central role.
But Arteta insists that he has “much confidence” in the young striker to become a success at Arsenal.
“I want him to continue to do what he did,” said Arteta.
“The way he played last night against these players, in these difficult conditions, is to me extraordinary for his age.
“He has a huge personality to play, of the trust, it is powerful and develops in all areas I think. I have a lot of confidence in him.
“The trick here is to take them with the right environment around them. Not to put too much pressure.
“We have a very young team, a team very inexperienced, and when you put it in certain parts of the terrain very close to each other, you can see that there are deficits and decision-making is not always the right thing to do.
“We are in a position where we have to accept that some things in this moment, in there, probably more than we would like, will be like that.
“These are the circumstances we have, but at the same time, it is great because it is a great value for them to have these experiences and see them play against this type of opposition. ”
