Man died in motorcycle accident on Stoney Trail

A man died in a single vehicle motorcycle accident on the Stoney Trail on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the accident took place around 3 p.m. on Stoney Trail northbound between Scenic Acres Link and Crowchild Trail in northwest Calgary.

During the impact with the road, parts of the motorcycle could be seen rolling towards the central median, near the place where the rider’s body stopped.

Police were on the scene moments after the accident, which was quickly overrun by stopped drivers.

Upon arrival, emergency medical teams found bystanders and Calgary police officers performing CPR on the motorcycle operator.

EMS teams then declared the man dead on the scene.

Calgary police closed Stoney Trail north after the accident with no delay in reopening the road, but a police spokesperson said the nature of the accident and inclement weather could prolong the closure.

Officers say the cause of the accident is under investigation.
