Liverpool given their due about double transfer snub, and Mohamed Salah is Timo Werner proof

The fans of Liverpool have been stung by the disappointment of missing out on Timo Werner, with RB Leipzig, the attacker of the research set to confirm a switch to Chelsea during Anfield. It seems Liverpool were not willing to pay the 24-year-old’s £53m asking price in the current financial climate, but the discourtesy to prove to be another example of their smart transfer of decision-making?

During Jürgen Klopp the manager of the Reds, there have been a handful of transfer targets that got fans ‘ pulses racing before finally going somewhere else.

Two of the more high-profile activities have been Brazilian Alex Teixeira, a time of Shakhtar Donetsk, and Thomas Lemar, who, at the time of Liverpool’s interest has been a player of as Monaco.

Teixeira has been the subject of a bid in the region of £25m Liverpool return in 2016, but he ended by permutation of Ukraine for Jiangsu Suning in China for a price almost double that of the Reds of the offer.

At the time, there were many disappointment. Liverpool do not have the football powerhouse, they are today, and for Teixeira would undoubtedly have strengthened their attacking ranks.

In his last half season at Shakhtar, Teixeira has scored 26 goals and 10 times scored two times in the same match. There are parallels to Timo Werner current striker.

According to the RB Leipzig, the man has been directly involved in 33 Bundesliga goals this season – 25 goals and eight assists in 31 matches.

However, the club’s judgment in 2016 finally paid off. While Teixeira completed a € 45m move to the Chinese Super League, Liverpool has added Mohamed Salah to their ranks 18 months later.

Similarly, Liverpool has been held on the Thomas Lemar, who had excelled in Monaco usurpation of Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 title in 2017.

Sporting Director Michael Edwards has held discussions with the club of the principality, but was unable to find a deal for the young Frenchman.

At the time, Lemar has been talked about in the same breath as Kylian Mbappé, for his influence on Monaco title charge, so was missing, it was naturally discouraging for the Reds.

He has scored nine goals and 10 assists during the 2016-17 League 1 campaign, but his price tag was considered too high for what Liverpool would be getting. The club’s reluctance to make a reflex sign once again paid dividends.

The following season, Lemar influence has declined as the Monaco team has been taken apart by the European elite. Still, Atlético Madrid has deemed worthy of spending £63m in the summer of 2018 – a move which looks increasingly ill-informed.

This season, Lemar has made 25 outings for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions and failed to score or assist.

This part returns to the style of play used by the coach of Atletico Diego Simeone, and that a lot of Lemar’s appearances are on the bench, but needless to say, his stock has fallen massively.

In spite of the tumult around Lemar in 2017, Liverpool has kept his distance, waiting for the right signature, which eventually turned out to be the Egyptian Salah.

This year, one of europe’s most coveted individuals is Werner, and while Chelsea seem to have won the race, for him, to succeed, it needs to translate to the Bundesliga, the form of the Premier League.

Any transfer has an element of risk attached to it. A certain player make in a different set-up with another manager? Will they settle in a new environment? There are a plethora of warnings.

In the case of Teixeira and Lemar, Liverpool could easily have bowed to the pressure of popular opinion and has spent more than the odds.

Instead, their reluctance can now be painted as wisdom. If their snub Werner will make it a hat-trick of the attacker of the stars of Liverpool were right to hold back on the rest to see.

Many Chelsea fans will be already looking forward to next season, but for now, Liverpool supporters should not lose sight of their immediate objective.

They are on the very cusp of achieving something monumental – won the Premier League title – without Lemar, without Teixeria and without Werner.
