A MEAT factory in Cleckheaton has confirmed the existence of several cases of coronavirus after the health secretary has warned of new cases of Kirklees.

Kober, a meat packing plant which supplies Asda, has not been able to confirm the exact number of cases, but said that the factory will be closed for the next week, as a precaution.

The company is also owned by Asda, which bought the company from the outset by its Normanton-based company to the International products Limited in 2016.

This evening, the companies released a joint statement.

A spokesman for ASDA and Kober said: “as soon As we became aware that some of our colleagues, to our Kober site may have Covid-19, we responded quickly and worked in collaboration with the local authority and Public Health England for testing of all colleagues.

“We have existing strict security measures in place on the site, but as a precautionary measure, we voluntarily closed the site to protect colleagues and prevent any further transmission.

“Colleagues who need to self-isolate will receive pay and we aim to re-open the facility early next week. We are grateful to Kirklees Council and Public Health England for their support through this process.”
