Adding precision to a TV show rarely happens, sometimes due to budget constraints or a lack of research. breaking Bad was a rare exception in putting in more detail than he probably should have. Not that some details are completely on the nose.

Since it was a methamphetamine production and addiction program, showrunner Vince Gilligan wanted the actors to reflect the physical changes these people are going through. Anyone who knows how methamphetamine affects the body knows that one of the first signs is tooth loss, among other cavities.

One thing Gilligan wanted breaking Bad was more specific in this department with the character of Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Finally, Paul liked his teeth a little too much.

All of the before and after photos of methamphetamine addicts show a dramatic change from the way they start and then take methamphetamine. Most of these people appear to be 20 or 30 years old.

With Pinkman still beaten breaking Bad then by smoking methamphetamine repeatedly, Gilligan wanted to give Pinkman a more embodied appearance. According to Gilligan in an interview with Digital Spy for the show’s 20th anniversary in 2018, he deeply regrets how perfect Aaron Paul’s teeth were.

According to Gilligan: “Small details like that. If I stopped to think about it, I would change them. I said to myself: “I wish we understood correctly”.

With so many other details well done Breaking Bad, it may seem overly obsessive to complain about a lack of precision on this front. Again, Paul tried to make it more real simply by his acting essence.

Aaron Paul Spends Time With True Methamphetamine Addicts During His Research

No one should blame Paul for not wanting his teeth changed. After all, the series could have used CGI to make its teeth look bad, even though it was expensive for each episode.

Paul still managed to put everything he had in the role. He said in an interview with Reddit AMA in 2013 that he spent time with current and former drug addicts. He realized how much it transcends people and turns them into polar opposites to what they once were.

Paul said, “I wanted to try to bring as much honesty to this character as possible, and I saw a darker side for people I had never seen before. Methamphetamine is a terrible drug, as you know, and has the ability to grip you tightly. ”

In that same interview, he noted that some fans thought he was really a meth addict, which he vehemently objects to. Nevertheless, you could say that he studied these addicts so well, he provided them with a mirror on Breaking Bad.

Other things about meth on the show were very specific

More breaking Bad fans know that the Drug Enforcement Agency has worked as consultants with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to teach them how to make real methamphetamine. The two actors left with a demanding knowledge of the drug, which probably gives a thrill to the unknown audience.

Not that the actors would give it to others, or do it themselves in real life. At least, they really stood in the middle of methamphetamine production to understand its obscurity from start to finish.

While this problem with Aaron Paul’s teeth may still bother Vince Gilligan, most fans are well aware that he has brought the most detailed portrait of a methamphetamine dealer / addict ever seen on television. No wonder so many people watch the series over and over again to marvel at the number of details that have been placed there while other TVs generally take turns.
