ISIS / ISIS suspect on trial in Paris


PARISA man accused of being a so-called “emir” of the Daesh / ISIS terrorist group is due to appear in Paris court on Thursday for a trial for his alleged crimes in Syria.

Tyler Vilus, aka Abu Hafs, is accused of leading a terrorist group and committing murders in an organized gang in Syria in 2013-2015, among other offenses.

Vilus was arrested on July 2, 2015, almost five years ago today, while boarding a plane for Prague at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, and was subsequently extradited to trial .

Turkey has long advocated the repatriation of European nationals who belonged to terrorist groups.

Vilus’s phone, which was confiscated at the time, is said to contain text messages sent immediately after his arrest to Abdelhammad Abaaoud, Belgian member of Daesh / ISIS.

Born in Troyes, in the north-east of France, the 30-year-old Frenchman will face a high court involving a jury.

The accused is said to be among the top ranks of Daesh / ISIS and has close relationships with key figures in the organization.

Vilus is the first French Daesh / Daesh member to be fired for a criminal trial and could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty.
