India and France discuss security and political issues

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had a broad discussion on Tuesday with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian during which the two leaders discussed issues of contemporary security and political importance. The discussion between the two foreign ministers came after India and France exchanged views at the level of foreign secretariats on regional and global issues of common interest.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Secretary General of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs François Delattre via video link on Monday discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and reviewed the progress of their multifaceted cooperation.
Mr. Jaishankar, in a tweet, said: “Wide-ranging discussion with French FM @JY_LeDrian. Matters covered by contemporary security and political importance. ”

“Also agreed to address the challenges associated with COVIDs in the areas of health and aviation. I thanked him for the unwavering support of the UNSC and we look forward to working together, “he said.

The discussion between the two foreign ministers comes at a time when the Indian and Chinese armies are locked in a bitter deadlock in several places in eastern Ladakh in the past seven weeks, and tension has increased in many ways after that 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a violent confrontation in Galwan Valley on June 15.
