There’s a very exclusive sports club that even someone as famous as Cristiano Ronaldo has just entered … and Lionel Messi remains frozen.

You need the profile of a global superstar, a mountain of trophies and enough lure for sponsors to tread on your feet.

Ronaldo, Mayweather and Woods are three of four members of the sport’s most exclusive club

Oh, and a billion in the bank.

Juventus icon Ronaldo recently became the top billionaire in football after making £ 85 million last year.

His big rival Lionel Messi should follow suit this year.

But for now, the genius of Barcelona is outside looking towards the most lucrative club in the sport.

Here, SunSport reviews the four names that have had three commas in their bank accounts.

They’ve all hit the billions of dollars mark at some point in their careers, but a couple have seen their profits decline since then.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese sensation, 35, made £ 85 million in wages and endorsements in 2019, pushing him into the billions for career gains.

His annual earnings actually fell 9% after he cut his wages by £ 3.5 million due to a coronavirus.

But Ronaldo still had to hit the $ 1 billion mark before Messi.

Former Man Utd and Real Madrid player Ronaldo has pocketed more than £ 500 million in his career alone for wages.

The five-time Golden Ball winner has stayed at the top of his game for so long because of a legendary work ethic, a strict diet that includes “magic” chicken and a brutal training regimen.

He also naps five times a day.

Ronaldo has a £ 16 million collection of cars, which he reportedly added earlier this year when he spent £ 8.5 million on a limited-edition Bugatti Centodieci – of which only 10 were produced.

It also affects property.

Last month there were reports that the father of four was building a £ 7m mansion in Quinta da Marinha on the so-called Portuguese Riviera for his retirement.

This came after the purchase of the most expensive apartment ever sold in Lisbon last year – a 6.5 million pound property that includes a gym and indoor pool.

Ronaldo, who is the most followed person on Instagram with 223 million, is sponsored by Nike, Herbalife, DAZN and Unilever, among others.

Tiger woods

Before the fall of his sex scandal and years in the desert due to injuries, surgeries and an unforgettable mugshot for driving under the influence, Woods was a sponsor’s dream.

He and Federer remain the only active athletes to ever cross the $ 100 million (£ 80 million) mark in sponsorship revenue in a single year.

Woods became a billionaire in 2009, according to Forbes – just before his world fell apart.

The 44-year-old golfer lost a bunch of big funders, including Gillette and American Express, after crashing his car in three on Thanksgiving in 2009.

Dozens of women have come forward claiming to have had intercourse with the major champion 15 times, leading to a £ 80 million divorce from ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

And many believed that his career was over after being found slumped behind the wheel of his Mercedes in 2017.

But he bounced back to the top of the game after undergoing spinal fusion surgery that saved his career and won the Masters last year.

Notoriously thrifty – friends say he’s a horrible dumpster – Woods spent money at his epic £ 41m mansion in Florida.

The father of two also owns a £ 15 million yacht called Confidentiality and some of his big sponsors include Nike, Monster Energy and Bridgestone.

His current net worth is around £ 630 million.

Floyd Mayweather

No one shows his vast wealth like the retired 50-0 king, who also showed a caring side when he recently offered to pay George Floyd’s funeral costs.

The money pulled out of the ring, but his last big fight – against Conor McGregor in August 2017 – earned him $ 275 million (220 million pounds) and pushed him to become a billionaire.

According to Forbes, he was the highest paid celebrity in the world in 2018 as well as the richest sports star.

Mayweather has a magnificent 8 million pound mansion in Las Vegas that includes a shoe cabinet.

He also has a fleet of supercars worth £ 20 million which includes a number of Rolls-Royces worth over £ 3 million and four Bugatti Veyron supercars which made him lose 1.7 million pounds sterling each.

All of his black cars are kept in Las Vegas and his white cars are parked in Los Angeles in his 19 million pound mansion, which has 10 bathrooms, a private movie theater for 20 people and a master bedroom larger than most London apartments.

He can travel between the two houses in his £ 50 million private jet.

Mayweather’s wealth was the subject of much controversy, however, and he was forced to deny that he was broken.

The former boxer says he makes seven figures a month from “smart investments.”

The source of Mayweather’s wealth can be traced back to her breakup with legendary promoter Bob Arum.

Arum promoted Mayweather under his nickname as Pretty Boy during the first decade of his professional career after the 1996 Olympics.

But in 2006, Mayweather went to Arum’s office, wrote the check for $ 750,000 (£ 600,000) which released her from her contract and turned into Mayweather “Money”.

He became a money-making machine thanks to his appearances at Wrestlemania and Dancing with the Stars, box office successes like his 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao – the richest fight of all time – and his profiles on social networks.

His current net worth is around £ 400 million.

Michael Jordan

First billionaire of the sport, MJ became a financial giant after his retirement thanks to his range of sneakers.

Air Jordans brings in manufacturers Nike 2.5 billion pounds a year and helped Son Airness accumulate a personal fortune of around 1.7 billion pounds.

The profile of the former Chicago Bulls star has been further enhanced with the Netflix’s 10 episodes of The Last Dance.

Last year he made the equivalent of £ 27,780 an hour again – despite his final retirement in 2013.

Jordan’s 2.5 billion pound reduction for his coaches is about £ 120 million, four times the NBA icon LeBron James thanks to his Nike sponsorship deal.

But other corporate giants were desperately looking for a slice of MJ – who somehow can’t sell his incredible 12 million pound Illinois mansion – with a cigar room.

Huge companies such as Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Chevrolet – who figure prominently on Man Utd’s shirts – have written colossal checks for him to promote their brand.

Jordan, now 57, is expected to be worth £ 1.66 billion.

No wonder he spends most of his time smoking cigars, playing golf and tasting his own tequila, which can sell for £ 1,400 a bottle.
