The 46-year-old radio presenter went on social media to announce his surprise departure from the radio station after the non-renewal of his contract.
Iain, who has worked with the station for four years, said the news “broke his heart to share” and that he thought his last broadcast on radio yesterday was a bit “dull”.
The news came as a shock to his loyal listeners, and some urged Iain to start his own cat.
In Iain’s lengthy statement, the star of I’m A Celebrity said he has been waiting for a decision on his future for some time.
He also told radio bosses that he is now looking for additional shifts.
“I have been waiting for a while to find out if my contract will be renewed and today I was finally told no, it is not. I’m not going back on the air, “he wrote.
“My last show was from last night (which I thought was a bit dull, a 5 out of 10 only! Out with a groan!). “
Iain then recalled the moments he experienced on the show.
“I spent 4 incredible years at talkRADIO. I am the only host to be in the original location that I requested for 4 years after the start of the station.
Iain added: “The only host to have won an industry award (2 ARIA in fact, the best speech presenter 2017 and the best radio moment 2020). The only host to save 2 lives live. The only host to have helped a desperate alcoholic find. The only host to have had a real radio failure. The only host to tell the truth about your Prime Minister being a racist idiot. ”
Sharing the moving message with his 99,200 followers on Twitter, the radio host thanked his colleagues and listeners.
“I couldn’t have done this without my producer and later co-host Katherine Boyle. She was the real power behind the show, not me. I love you Katherine and I know we have done something unique. Only you and I know what happened behind the scenes, and yet we stayed true to our goal – to bring more silliness and humanity to the radio.
“I would like to thank Scott, Liam and Dennie for allowing me to play in their house for so long and for giving me the freedom you have made.”
“I am sorry that I did not support my friend Emma Kennedy more. This is the only regret I have of my time there. Sorry, Emma.
He continued, “Thank you, dear listeners. You all.
“You showed me that I was right to swim against the tide. You joined our silly little gang and played the game. I am eternally grateful to you.
“Oh, and the radio controllers and programmers … have they started to change coverage? “
Iain was inundated with messages from listeners after announcing the news earlier today.
Many of his fans have noticed that talkRADIO would not be the same without the legendary presenter.
