Greek PM says coronavirus vaccine should not be used as a for-profit toolThe COVID-19 vaccine, once developed, is expected to be a global public good that will be distributed around the world, and not just a way to make a profit, said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In a statement on Twitter, the Prime Minister referred to Greece’s successful response to the first wave of the pandemic, which allowed a gradual return to normalcy, while noting that the threat to the world must be a global response. .

“The government, scientists and citizens have come together to fight to keep our people healthy and safe.” And after three months, we came out victorious. Our society and our economy are back to normal, ”Mitsotakis said.

Greece has pledged € 3 million to the European Commission’s coronavirus vaccine research fund. With this initiative, the European Commission intends to accelerate the development, production and equitable access to vaccines, diagnoses and therapies.

“And when science does its job, we will be at the forefront of the fight to make the vaccine a global public good and not just a way to make a profit. The vaccine needs to reach all corners of the world and be accessible to everyone, ”he added.

“Because when the threat is universal, its treatment must also be universal,” Mitsotakis concluded.
