He said the No. 10 press conference: “We have been creating bubbles of children in the classroom, the creation of a protective environment for children.

“Currently, it is 15 years old, what we would be looking at expanding these bubbles include the whole of the class.”

He added: “We recognise that there is still going to be protective measures put in place to ensure that children are safe and make sure that teachers and all those who work in the school are safe, and that is why we will publish further guidance in the next two weeks.”

Boris Johnson has also promised to get all the children returning full time to school in September.

The Prime Minister has paved the way for the beautiful summer back in, insisting that it was time for the nation to stop living in fear of coronavirus, and to get fed the kids back in class.

He said: “I want a world in which — to the extent possible and to the extent that we can make the classes safe, I think we can — every child, every student, every student is back in September.

“I’m sure we can do it.”

Millions of students have missed more than four months of school in September.

Two million have done little or no work since the month of March, a study has found.

The children’s Commissioner Anne Longfield, said: “With Ireland’s reduction of the social distance of one metre in the schools, it seems like a good opportunity for the Government to try to find out if the schools in England can do the same thing.

“The children and parents have made sacrifices to help fight this virus.

“The well-being and education of millions has been spilled, and most children from disadvantaged backgrounds are at risk of falling further behind.

“This is why we need a national effort, led by the Government, councils and schools, to the greatest possible number of children back in the classroom.”
