But a tipping point seems to have been reached after Haftar’s disastrous defeat in western Libya. After having swallowed the line of France according to which Paris fought against “terrorism” by supporting the strong man Haftar against the “Islamists” in Tripoli, some within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and security apparatuses would start to work back.
A senior official familiar with French policy in Libya, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged “frustration” within the French establishment over the ongoing debacle.
