French Minister of Finance: nuclear energy remains topical for France – Energy & Oil

PARIS, June 30 (Reuters) – French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said Tuesday that nuclear power remains relevant to France even as the country closes its oldest nuclear power plant in Fessenheim.”I am a defender of nuclear energy,” Le Maire told BFM TV, adding that he nevertheless wanted France to develop further in other energy fields, such as hydrogen.

The French government aims to reduce the share of nuclear power in its electricity mix to 50% by 2035 compared to current levels of more than 71%.
