France in the european UNION: its commitments, its vision

Since his election 3 years ago, President Macron has been an ardent champion of the European project. The French government has consistently called for solidarity between the Member States and has revived the traditional franco-German stewardship, which brings new possibilities in the light of “brexit”.

The president Macron and Chancellor Merkel are strong supporters of the stimulus, adopted by the Commission at its Next-Generation proposal. The president Macron seems optimistic about the conclusion of an agreement in July, despite the concerns of some Member States.

Please join this EURACTIV 1:1 dialogue with Amélie de Montchalin, French State Secretary for European Affairs, on the 1st of July, as Germany takes over the Presidency of the European Council. She will discuss France on the state of the european UNION and its future. Issues include:

– How is France to position itself in view of its European commitments?
– What does France expect of its closest partners?
– What are the main challenges for the country as it recovers from the impact of the COVID economic crisis?
