PARIS, June 11 (Reuters) – France is unlikely to experience power cuts this winter despite an expected tightening situation in the supply of several of its nuclear reactors, French Minister of Energy announced Wednesday and the person in charge of the electrical network.French winter electricity consumption is expected to be roughly at the same level as the previous year, said head of power grid operator François Brottes at a press conference.

He added that France may have to import during the winter to guarantee winter supply, while the electricity supply for summer is secure.

The new coronavirus outbreak disrupted maintenance plans for EDF’s nuclear reactors, delaying the start-up of several reactors.

Energy Minister Elisabeth Borne said measures have been put in place to avoid blackouts. “This unprecedented crisis has led to unprecedented measures,” she said. (Report by Benjamin Mallet Writing by Bate Felix; Edition by Elaine Hardcastle)
