France confirms reading of black boxes from fallen Ukrainian jet

PARIS / OTTAWA (Reuters) – France announced Friday that it will download the black boxes of a Ukrainian airliner shot down in Iran in January, ending months of uncertainty over the fate of the two recorders .The BEA air crash agency said it was acting on behalf of Iran, which is conducting an official air accident investigation after acknowledging that the Boeing 737 was accidentally shot down by its forces, causing 176 deaths.

Repair and download of the cockpit voice and data recorders will begin on July 20, the BEA said, while aviation authorities in Canada, including 57 citizens who died in the crash, have announced that they would send a team to Paris to participate.
