What you probably heard: Three months after signing an exclusive two-year contract with Twitch for a “life-changing” sum of money, Twitch nevertheless “definitively banned” Guy Beahm, aka Dr Disrespect, for something that he did in violation of company rules.
What You Might Think: It is too much of a coincidence for the abrupt disappearance of its channel to occur one day after Twitch announced that it would begin to permanently ban streamers for sexual harassment and assault.
The truth: we don’t currently know if Twitch at even banned Beahm, let alone the facts as to why Disrespect disappeared on Friday, as the company repeatedly refused to even confirm a ban on The edge – and refused to deny a new statement from Beahm tonight that claims Twitch won’t even tell him What’s going on.
Twitch did not inform me of the specific reason for its decision … Firm handshakes to everyone for support during this difficult time.

It’s Beahm’s first word since his channel suddenly disappeared from Twitch on Friday afternoon, and it’s clearly designed to suggest that Twitch is wrong. Maybe he knows very well what’s going on and is hiding behind the words “specific reason”, but we have no current evidence of whatever right now – again, neither Twitch nor Irrespect even confirmed it was suspended, let alone banned, much less permanently. To be frank, we haven’t seen anything that rules out the possibility that Disrespect withdrew from Twitch for any reason, as unlikely as it may seem.
The idea that it was originally originally banned came from second-hand, from sources who spoke anonymously through other people on Twitter – and both the people Tweeter have since explained that they are unwilling or unable to share their reason. Kotaku has since corroborated a ban with three additional sources, but for a currently inexplicable reason, Twitch will not go that far. Sometimes in the past we have seen companies do this because they prefer the current understanding of a situation in the world, even when that understanding is wrong.
The only thing Twitch has provided is this statement, which it refused to connect to Beahm, even when we explained that it left open the possibility that Beahm was not banned.
It is entirely possible that everything will be revealed in due course, and all publications currently reporting that disrespect has been permanently banned will seem justified after the fact. There may also be a very good reason why certain facts should be hidden.
The only facts currently available are that Dr. Irrespect disappeared from Twitch; Twitch and Beahm won’t say why; and many people wonder when we will all know.
