According to Variety, Disney is developing a musical film “based on the songs of the American treasure Lionel Richie”, and – as is always the case with projects like this – it will have the most obvious title imaginable. Go ahead, try to think about it. We will drag it out and give you some time.
His All night long, obviously. Unlike films with similar obvious names like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, however, this will not be a musical biopic. Instead of, Variety says it’s closer to something like Mamma Mia, that is to say, it will be a musical jukebox that uses the music of the American treasure Lionel Richie to tell a new story that does not necessarily concern Lionel Richie. It seems the best choice anyway, because these musical biopics seem a bit cheap and easy. Richie and his manager Bruce Eskowitz are producers on this, with Crazy Rich Asians and Proposal writer Pete Chiarelli manipulating the script. (Although we don’t know anything about the script, beyond the fact that it will involve someone who will sing “All Night Long” at some point.)
