Little has changed in the pause of three months of the Premier League, which was clear when Manchester City won 3-0 over Arsenal.
The action Wednesday night at the Etihad showed that Kevin De Bruyne is completely magical and that David Luiz still makes too often mistakes.
This is De Bruyne who has been the inspiration of the City while the elite is finally back, scoring a penalty in between goals from Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.
But Luiz was still the Achilles heel of Arsenal.
After having been presented as a replacement for the injured Pablo Husband in the middle of the first half, the Brazilian gave City their first goal with a terrible mistake before giving the spot-kick for a foul on Riyad Mahrez and of being deported.
However, the performance of De Bruyne and Luiz have been largely forgotten at the end of Wednesday evening, as the defender of the city, Eric Garcia, has been stretched with an injury a serious concern.
After that Arsenal has lost Granit Xhaka and Pablo Husband following an injury in the first half, Garcia has undergone a prolonged treatment and the players have looked in distress after the Spanish had been knocked out by a collision sickening with his own guard.
Ederson is out to charge and, with eyes only for the ball, he accidentally hit his defender and left him motionless on the ground.
After the match, the patron of the city, Pep Guardiola, has stated that the defender Garcia was aware, but he had to be taken to the hospital for further checks.
“We’re a little worried,” he said. “He responds well, but we have to wait for the next few hours. ”
This was an ending too shocking for what was a good night’s work for Manchester City, although they have got help along the way.
Arsenal started brilliantly, but was forced into two early changes when Xhaka and Husband have left the field injured.
One of the men to come was Luiz, who has misjudged the center of de Bruyne in the off time of the first half-time, allowing Sterling to dive and grab his first goal of 2020.
And then the Brazilian received his marching orders for tripping Mahrez, who was past the goal, allowing De Bruyne to dismiss the penalty and end the game in the 51st minute.
The injury, late of Garcia resulted in a long stop of the procedure, but the City has not finished yet as a replacement for Foden took over in the final moments.
The victory means that Liverpool still needs two victories in its nine games remaining to win his first league title in 30 years.
