Bacary Sagna has heaped praise on Mikel Arteta for the positive impact it has already had the Arsenal defence and believes David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos were both improved under the Spanish tutelage.

Arsenal began to find their rhythm and suffered only one defeat in their last 13 matches in all competitions prior to the sars coronavirus pandemic, which has introduced English football to the stop in March.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led from the front as captain, despite the intense speculation surrounding his future, scoring seven goals in ten matches, and the Gunners have also been exuding confidence at the back.

The north London outfit conceded only four goals in their last seven matches, but restart their campaign with a formidable trip to Manchester City, the team, Arteta to the left to take charge at the Emirates in December.

When asked about the side’s defensive issues before Arteta took the reins, ex-Arsenal and City back Sagna told Premier League Productions: “I believe that he needs to give them some stability because they have been evil for quite a long time now, especially at centre-back, the people were not happy.

“I think Sokratis and David Luiz are really good players. I don’t know if they have been under pressure because we kept talking about them and after having committed some errors, they have been on the radar.

“But since Mikel came, I think they are more solid and free together.

Arsenal did not concede a lot of goals, so that I can say that there has been improvement.

‘I’ve seen Luiz might be going at the end of the season, but this would be a great thing for me to see him play another season, a full season, according to Mikel.

“I think Mikel has just need to time to adjust the defense and make them stronger “.

This weekend, Arsenal technical director Edu stressed the importance Luiz at the club amid rumours of his countryman could be set for the exit door this summer.

‘This is a guy who can really help in the day-to-day on and off the field, as he did,’ Edu said to Arsenal official website.

“I already knew him well, because I’ve had it with him to the national team, when I was a coordinator and it went very well.

“We help each other. You know that it is important to feel support and to be happy in the day-to-day at the club. It is a huge club, with fantastic principles.

“They also have to be proud to be where they are; that helps as well.’
