Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy and former ESPN host Jemele Hill had an intense confrontation on Monday over controversial remarks everyone had made in the past.

The feud began on Sunday after Hill amplified a 2016 clip from Barstool Sports’ “The Rundown”, where Portnoy compares San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick to an “ISIS guy” and says he had the “Arab” air.

“It’s terrible, but again, consider the source,” said Hill.

After retweeting screenshots of the cover of Barstool defending Kaepernick over the years, Portnoy responded by retweeting a screenshot of a 2009 tweet written by Hill and labeled “transphobic” by the Twitter user.

“My fb friends call him” Manny the Tranny “… so inappropriate and hilarious,” wrote Hill.

His tweet made reference to former MLB player Manny Ramirez’s doping scandal, where he used a female fertility drug as a steroid.

Portnoy supporters chased Hill on social media, using the hashtag #CancelJemelle, which was trending on Twitter.

As her tweet began to circulate, the contributor to Atlantic responded to one of her critics who called her the “Queen of Cancellation Culture” and addressed the remark.

“Let me explain why I kept this tweet when it came to my attention: For the context, the tweet referred to Manny Ramirez’s positive test for the woman’s fertility drug, gonadotropin. He was totally ignorant, stupid and offensive. I’m ashamed to be so uneducated on trans issues back then. I strongly support this community today, “wrote Hill about the tweet, which he ultimately deleted.

She continued, “I kept the tweet because I was excited about the opportunity to apologize and show growth. See, unlike some people, I’m not defensive about my moments of failure. care about Dave Portnoy or one of the other bar stool sycophants RT’ing that in my TL, like it was a moment of distress. I care about the trans community that I belittled and offended. If they don’t see me as an ally because of it, it’s my job to show them that I am. ”

Portnoy, however, took a different approach in a video message, snapping the cancellation culture, but noted that he and Barstool Sports have been targeted “for 17 f – in‘ years “.

“I’ve been doing this for two decades. I made fun of every group of people, every race, every belief, every culture – you name it, we made jokes about it, “said Portnoy. “So if the No Fun Club, if the cancellation culture wants to go back blog by blog, video by video, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, decade by decade and go through everything that we never f – in said and done, yeah, you’re gonna find some jokes that missed the mark, that things if they are said today, you’d be like, ‘How did they f – in’ say they? What are they, idiots? But times change, sensitivities change, cultures change. When you’ve been doing it for as long as we do, things turn into “change!” ”

The CEO of Barstool Sports said he was not going to apologize or “bend the knee” for his remarks about Kaepernick, which he said was “literally a joke of” The Office “” and how people who want to cancel it probably “would like” the show but “hate it”.

“There is not a single person I have worked with, who has worked for me, with whom we have done business, who has interacted with anyone who will support what these enemies say. Not a single one, and I’ve worked with thousands and thousands and thousands of people, “said Portnoy. “Instead, they just throw rocks and darts behind the bushes and I turn around like,” Do you want to talk about it because I can explain my thought process and defend myself. They never do. No. They just want to run and hide. Throw darts, run and hide. Well f – you. ”

Portnoy then addressed his critics, telling them “every time they try to cancel us with movements that appear every two years, it only makes us stronger because normal people want to escape for some f – in ‘seconds of this f – ed-up world. ”

“When you are miserable and dead and do your own thing, in the next decade we will always be there. You’re still going to lose sleep over this. This is how it goes. You see this cup? It’s not going anywhere, “concludes Portnoy.
