Damian Lillard thought he was going to be traded to Knicks

Damian Lillard was almost a Knick. At least that’s what the leader of the Trail Blazers All-Star thinks.“I thought I was going there a few years ago; I was hearing trade rumors, “said Lillard in an interview with Vanity Fair. “The Garden is my favorite place to play. ”

It’s not clear when he was referring to, but to miss Lillard, 29, would not be the first time the Knicks have failed to secure a point guard. They almost traded against Raptors leader Kyle Lowry in 2013. In 2018, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said that if Lillard didn’t stay in Portland, his two favorite destinations were the Knicks and the Lakers.

The Knicks would obviously not be on the market for a playmaker if this deal failed. Lillard is an All-Star five-time and four-time All-NBA selection. Lillard is on contract during the 2024-25 season and the Knicks are in desperate need of a floor general.
